CEO of Cirrus Oil attends and delivers address at the Fifth Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD V)
The symposium, which took place in Tokyo, Japan, on Friday May 31, 2013, was themed: Investing in health, the key to economic development in Africa. It focused on health as one key to achieving sustainable development in Africa by engaging corporate leaders from Africa and Japan and representatives of several global organizations, including the CEO of Cirrus Oil Services Ltd, Mrs. Ivy Apea Owusu, to talk about their own experience with public-private partnerships for health and offered some suggestions on how corporations of all industries and all sizes could approach health in Africa.
Session 1: Leveraging Corporate Core Competencies for Health
Mrs. Ivy Apea Owusu addressed the gathering on Leveraging Corporate Core Competencies for Health, and highlighted the key health related CSR initiatives Cirrus Oil had undertaken; including a donation towards the fight against HIV/AIDS and other non-monetary efforts in communities like Takoradi to fight the solid waste menace facing the community through the supply of waste bins and facilitated collection. These and many other initiatives have enhanced Ghana's chances of attaining the MDG's and finally called on corporate institutions to make commitments towards health.
