Cirrus Oil Commission Tank Farm & Gantry In Takoradi
Cirrus Oil Services Limited, has commissioned its second state-of-the-art tank farm and loading gantry at Poase in the Western Region.
The facility is the first ever automated petroleum distribution terminal in the country to be commissioned barely twenty months after commissioning its first Gantry farm in Tema.
The facility comprises three oil storage tanks, a fire water tank for modern fire prevention and fighting, pumping station, control building and office facilities for oil marketing companies. Other modern safety provisions within the facility include infrared fire sensors and alarm system, automatic water and foam dispenser, which are fully automated to eliminate human errors.
The former Managing Director of Cirrus Oil Services, Mr. Nkum Adipa said as a dominant player in the Ghanaian market with over 35 percent market share in the upstream and downstream oil and gas sector Cirrus Oil Services Limited will continue to provide world class facilities and services in oil storage and loading while ensuring that the highest safety and environmental standards are maintained.
Mr. Adipa noted that the highly flammable and volatile nature of the products Cirrus deals in, calls for stringent preventive and fire control systems and therefore Cirrus has gone beyond the basic requirements to ensure that their systems are fully automated to eliminate any human errors.
Apart from the internal safety measures, we have worked with the Sekondi-Takoradi Municipal Authority to educate communities on the project and its high safety requirements as well as the in-built safety precaution. We have among other community-based environmental health and safety activities, distributed fire extinguishers to households and relocated some local ovens which were potential hazards to the people, He said. The Deputy Minister of Energy, Hon Armah Kofi Buah, on behalf of His Excellence the President of Ghana, announced that government will carry out a comprehensive review of the policy framework governing the downstream petroleum sector to ensure supply availability of petroleum products all over the country.
He said government would ensure that all licensed bulk oil distribution companies establish distribution facilities to store fuel in large quantities and load fuel into bulk vehicles or oil tanks, to ensure availability of petroleum products in the country.
The deputy Minister congratulated Cirrus Oil Services for taking the lead and said The initiative of Cirrus oil reflects the confidence that the business community have in the governments sound economic and fiscal policies.
Cirrus Oil Services Limited currently has over 70,000 cubic meters of storage capacity equipped with state of the art loading gantry for distribution of petroleum products to its customers which include the mining, aviation, offshore exploration and production industries.
